Once in a lifetime there comes along a horse that is extra special and will never be forgotten. "Kajun" was one of those horses.
Kajun" was purchased as a 2 year old from Heather and Rod Hart of Meadowind Miniatures and was our first Miniature Horse. We will always remember this little horse looking over the fence at Hart's and almost begging us to pick him. We had owned and worked with full sized horse all our lives but had never experienced the bond that developed with this little miniature and continued throughout his lifetime . Kajun's first show was the Manitoba Miniature Horse Club show as a 2 year old and he did us proud. Driving a Miniature was new to me and it was with reservations that I drove at this show since just the week before Kajun had taken me for a joyride into the ditch beside our home where he put us into water up to his stomach and then quietly stood there with a mischievious look in his eye while I removed the harness from him and pulled cart and wet harness up the bank. This was the only time that I can remember him doing such a foolish thing. "Kajun" also was shown in Iowa by the Hart's this same summer and we travelled along to watch where again he was a winner. Kajun was always ready to give more than was expected of him and was never a horse to disappoint us. He was shown in Canada and the United States for many years in both halter and performance classes and has earned many Championships throughout the years, He made visits to nursing homes and delighted the residents with his calm and loving nature. He also spent many years attending Brandon Winter Fair to be on display and meet people. He was a true ambassador of the breed. With children, he was patient and kind and gave enjoyment to our grandchildren and many visiting children. At home, Kajun could always be seen looking over the fence with that special mischievious look in his eyes watching us, opening gates on his own if not double latched, and always waiting for attention. He expected, after being worked with, to rush to the garage where he always got a sugar cube from Don. In the summer of 2000, Kajun was retired from the show ring since it was becoming obvious that he was having difficulties performing as before. We had hoped that he would enjoy a long retirement with us but this was not to be and due to medical problems the difficult decision was made to put him to rest. Rest peacefully dear Kajun - You will always remain that special little horse in our lives.

"Don't Cry For The Horses" Don't cry for the horses that life has set free A million white horses forever to be. Don't cry for the horses, now in God's hand, As they dance and they prance in a heavenly band. They were ours as a gift, but never to keep, As they close their eyes forever to sleep. Their spirits unbound, on silver wings they fly, A million white horses against a blue sky. Look up into Heaven, you'll see them above, The horses we lost, the horses we loved. Manes and tails flowing, they gallop through time, They were never yours, they were never mine. Don't cry for the horses, they'll be back someday, When time is gone, they will show us the way. Do you hear that soft nicker? Close to your ear? Don't cry for the horses, LOVE the ones that are here. ~ Author unknow ~
